Shocked, Pleased & Upset

Tue Dec 4, 2007, 4:59 AM
Well where do i start, i went back to the doctors today and said that my sessions with the osteopath had not improved my symptoms and although ive never mentioned it before my neck hurts when i turn my head right ( i had never linked it to anything before now)!

He said he still belives its a nerve thats being pressed on by either a bone or muscle, he sent me straight up for an X Ray and referred me for physiotheropy!

This was by the doctor that has been taking me serously so that was progress!

When i got home my mum was really pleased about the news but also let slip that the other doctor (the one with the not so good bedside mannor) said to my mum when he last saw her that they were wiping their hands of me and will keep giving me prozac as its all in my head!

Mum feels terrible for telling me this, im not upset with her, im just upset that a doctor would say such a thing, its as if he thinks im a Fraud, if that was true i would not have continued to work all throughout my problems this year and even have full time work now!

My mum only made these comments as she feels i have proved the first doctor wrong, there is no way i can go back and see him now, i could not face or be in the same room as him now!

Ah well, I've had my share of "idiot doctors" too, to hell with all of them ;-)

Happens to everyone. At least, you've find a doctor who believes you.

Sometimes you have to get past the "I know more than you" attitude of some doctor's just to get them to actually listen to what is going on. Like in any profession, there are good and bad doctors out there. Keep hanging in there. It sounds as if you have a good doctor now.

If the x-ray doesn't show much - ask for either an ultrasound or an MRI, OK? They can show up small things that an x-ray won't - and even the tiniest thing causing pressure on nerves in that area can be VERY painful!

As for the first "doctor" - what a pratt! Aren't you glad you sought a second opinion? Maybe your Mum can write a complaint about him to the body that oversees doctors' practices in your country - he's a menace!

I'd get an MRI! I agree wholeheartedly with TD on this on. I have a nerve that occsionally gets pinched, and last time it was, they did an MRI and was able to identify it, which vertebrete and muscle was causing the issue.

I hope you get to feeling better. As far as that other doctor, he's a crack pot, and they are out there. That's why it's so important to get second, third, fouth, how many opinions it takes.

my boyfriend is very sick as well, and every doctor he goes to see tells him that he needs prozac. I think the medical field today is a GIANT crock.

Keep plugging away Nick: hound the hospital until they find you another doctor if necessary, the NHS these days is supposed to offer greater choice to patients: keep reminding them of that!
